Buy Black Program

The 76ers Buy Black Program was developed as part of of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment’s action plan and $20 million commitment to racial equity, to promote local, Black-owned businesses and provide them with expert marketing consultation, advertising value, educational programs and additional tools to succeed. Applying businesses will be eligible for other resources, such as networking events and future 76ers business programs.

Once onboarded as an official partner of the Philadelphia 76ers, the winning business will be led by the 76ers DEI and Partnership Activation teams in identifying their key performance indicators and building a customized marketing strategy to be executed utilizing 76ers platforms and resources designed to help grow and sustain their businesses.

Limited Customers

White customers would sometimes refuse to shop with Black businesses, leaving Black businesses non-competitive.

During the COVID-19 recession, 28-percent of Black-owned businesses were in industries with the largest total job losses versus just 20-percent of white-owned businesses.

Between February and April 2020, 41-percent of Black-owned businesses shut down compared to 17-percent of white-owned businesses.

Despite the challenges they have faced, Black-owned businesses have continued to find ways to succeed and are a crucial pillar of our economy.

Black-owned businesses create jobs and enrich our economy, but many of them have remained relatively hidden gems.

Imagine how much more they will contribute to our communities, our cities, and our country when more Black-owned businesses have access to the tools that will help them grow and thrive.

As a first step, the Philadelphia 76ers launched the Buy Black program in January 2021. This immersive program has been developed to promote and market a select few Black-owned businesses that are located in the communities in which we live, work, play and win.

With access to expansive reach through Philadelphia 76ers channels and exposure to expert marketing consultation and use of marketing assets typically reserved for larger corporate partners, the selected businesses will receive customized marketing plans that will be executed by the Philadelphia 76ers to grow and sustain the success of their business.
